EPHEMERAL SHRINES

Boxcar Gallery

 

Generously hosted by Boxcar Gallery New Orleans, this pop-up exhibition will feature artwork and installations by queer, trans, and allied Romani artists. The exhibition itself serves as an ephemeral shrine dedicated to Saint Sara e Kali with each piece representing the artist's relationship to our patron saint. NOTE: This is an art exhibition by Roma artists. It is not a public ceremony nor is it a sharing of closed cultural practices; at it’s core it is a living art altar made by queer, trans, and allied Romani artists in public celebration of our personal relationship with spiritual heritage. Bibi’s kitchen: A family style Romani feast

Shrimp Boil Cabaret

Join your slutty, stoner Aunties Bimbo Yaga and Moonbear as they lovingly share their kitchen witchery with you. This four course family style meal will feature inspired dishes of Eastern European & Balkan Romani family food traditions; with slight variations to accommodate gluten free & vegetarian guests. Jezmina & Paulina will guide us in a tea leaf reading session following dinner. With live music from the renowned troubadour, Milly Raccoon, this ritual of food is curated to nourish and warm our spirits as we deepen into winter. Our menu for this event is subject to change.

A WEISER BOOKS literary Salon

Hosted by Ylva Mara Radziszewski, Bimbo Yaga, this Weiser Books literary salon features conversations and performances from both Roma & gadje (non-Roma,) centering discussion from Weiser authors and cultural stewards Lilith Dorsey, Jezmina Von Thiele & Paulina Stevens. These conversations will be accompanied by live music from Flower Darling & Milly Raccoon along with a screening of the short film “Tower Falls” by The Living Altar.

Water Always Wanders: A Ritual of storytelling

“Water Always Wanders” is an embodiment of remembered futures, told through original stories in honor of the poetic legacy of BronisÅ‚awa Wajs. A curated performance ritual facilitated thru storytelling from a cohort of queer and trans Romani artists Tsarina Hellfire, Jezmina Von Thiele, Ylvadroma Marzanna Radziszewski, Moonbear, Kiki Robinson, Baby Reckless & Konstantin Polyakov; with special guest LadyBabyMiss. Join us for an evening of object theater, shadow puppetry, & music as we join our voices in prayer with our queer & trans Romani ancestors. With multimedia installations from The Living Altar, Kiki Robinson & Baby Reckless. NOTE: this is performance art and storytelling as ritual by queer, trans, and allied Romani artists in celebration of our queer and trans Romani ancestors. It is not a sharing of closed cultural practices.

SECRETS OF ROMANI FORTUNE TELLING POP-UP

Cottage Magic

 

Cottage Magick will be hosting us for a Romani Fortune Telling Pop-Up; 11am - 3pm, Saturday December 7th! Jezmina will be offering palmistry and tarot readings, Paulina will be offering tarot readings and wellness consultations, while Bimbo Yaga will be offering trinket and tarot readings. Come by for some traditional Romani fortune telling, pick up a copy of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling & get it signed by the authors!

Afternoon tea in Roman

The Vampire Apothecary​

 

Join us in the beautiful parlor of The Vampire Apothecary for a traditional afternoon tea salon. Throughout the afternoon participants will enjoy delicious afternoon tea fare (vegetarian and vegan options available), delight in refreshing conversation and learn the foundations of tea leaf reading; facilitated by Jezmina Von Thiele, Paulina Stevens and Bimbo Yaga inspired by their family traditions. Participants will also recieve a personal tea cup and saucer to take home.

We have curated a number of events to highlight the beauty of Romani culture. Tickets to these events are sold a'la carte so that you can curate a personalized experience over the week of festivities. Tickets are first come and first served for each event, so get yours early!
